This is my version of the Ukrainian Christmas "Carol of the Bells". The original song with words was composed in early XX century but inspired in pre-Christian folk chants and thus my version is lyricless. The original version"Shchedryk" (means "Bountiful Evening" in Ukranian) also known as "The little Swallow" had nothing to do with the later Christmassy lyrics at all but was written as a New Years Carol. It was composed by Mykola Leontovych (the signature motif of four-note melody over a minor third of the chant is typical in many of his compositions) in 1916, and tells a story of a swallow flying into a household to sing of wealth and riches the following Spring would provide.
