JGI does not endorse handling or close proximity to wildlife. This represents a sanctuary context with trained professionals.
Brave Anzac was rescued from the illegal wildlife trade by Congolese authorities in partnership with The Aspinall Foundation and The Last Great Ape Organization (LAGA). Although she had lost her left arm, she would not let anything hold her back and soon after her rescue she made a full recovery. Anzac is extremely friendly and playful, and she loves to climb trees. Today she lives at JGI's Tchimpounga sanctuary on Ngombe Island, a place where she and her friends have a second chance at life.
