Hāwane Rios comes from the red waterways of Waimea on Hawai‘i Island nestled in the protection of the majestic and sacred Mauna Kea. She is a queer Kanaka ‘Ōiwi singer/songwriter/chanter/dancer - Aloha ‘Āina/Kia‘i Mauna/Kia’i Honua - a woman of prayer, song, and ceremony. Hāwane has stood on the frontlines to protect the sacred places and lifeways of her people as well as supported the stances of relatives of Turtle Island and beyond. The movements of the world standing to protect the rights of the earth inspires her art and continues to guide the deepening of her intention and purpose in her life work as a Kia’i (Protector) and ‘ōiwi musician. Mauli ola.
