The Art of Maps – Artful Cartography

Learn about the art of maps while creating your own unique art pieces!

For Ages 8 to 11 – Join us for a class about maps! Learn how to read maps and create your own maps. In this class we will create maps of where we live and of imaginary lands. We will also create artworks using maps as the creative inspiration. Be inspired by medieval maps, as well as contemporary artists that we will discuss in class, including Maya Lin and Mark Bradford.

  • Saturdays (4 Class Meetings)
  • September 12 to October 3
  • 11 – 12 PM PDT

  • $115/Student (tuition covers all 6 meetings)
  • Class will be conducted on Zoom

  • Watercolor paper or heavy stock paper, 8 sheets per student
  • Computer Paper
  • Cardboard
  • Sharpie (super fine point and fine point)
  • Construction Paper
  • Watercolor paints
  • Glue/glue-stick
  • Pencil & eraser
  • Colored pencils
  • White Glue, Glue-sticks, or Tape
  • Colored markers
  • Magazines or newspaper (for collaging)
  • Scissors

About the Instructor

Gabriella Carboni is an interdisciplinary artist originally from Boston, MA. In 2017, she received her MFA in Painting from Cranbrook Academy of Art. Gabriella moved to Los Angeles shortly thereafter She teaches in the Armory’s Studio and Schools programs. She is also a drawing instructor in Art Center College of Design’s public programs and was a 2018 Armory Fellow. She has exhibited in group shows internationally.
