Solace: Yin Yoga Community Class

January 25 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm EST

Solace Yin Yoga Community Class- A donation based 75 minute yin yoga class with 15 minutes of time for discussion, sharing, and connection.

Solace can be found within many things and places, but most importantly, it can be found within ourselves. Yin Yoga is an excellent way to discover your own inner place of solace: a space of comfort, consolation, and peace from the external conditions around you. In this meditative practice, we focus on our body’s energetic anatomy, breath, stillness, silence, and nourishing and appropriately challenging our yin tissues (connective tissues, fascia, joints). Floor based postures will be held with the support of props anywhere from 30 seconds to 8 minutes each with the intention of going within, challenging ourselves to truly find stillness and tranquil silence, and understanding our bodies better physically and energetically. At the beginning and end of this practice, we will have time for small community discussions and connection.

A brief statement about Yin Yoga: This practice can be thought of as a compliment or balance to yang or solar quality practices, which would be any styles of yoga that are fluid and flowing, fast paced, and using muscular engagement. Here, we tap into the lunar qualities of stillness, silence, release, and surrender. It has its roots in Taoist Yoga and practices, and Chinese Meridian theory, with contributions from accomplished individuals such as Paulie Zink, Paul Grilley, Hiroshi Motoyama, Sarah Powers, and Bernie Clark.

Important Note: Zahir encourges and facilitates a high level of personal physical awareness and accountability (yin yoga is a great practice to develop this!). As such, please ensure that this practice is appropriate for your body, and use your best judgement or that of your medical provider’s to determine if this is an appropriate and safe class for you. If you have any injuries or impactful conditions, please be aware and let Zahir know if you feel comfortable doing so. Zahir is not nor does she claim to be a physician, doctor, or therapist in any way.
