Practicing the Social: Entanglements of Art and Social Justice
January 20 @ 3:30 pm - January 22 @ 5:30 pm EST
What is Practicing the Social?
Hosted by Re•Vision: The Centre for Art and Social Justice, and their project Bodies In Translation: Activist Art, Technology and Access to Life, at the University of Guelph, this gathering will bring together artists, activists, and academics from across Canada, the US, Europe, and South America to engage in discussion and creative discovery about the entanglements between art and justice, and to explore the methodological challenges, possibilities, and tensions that define our social practices. We have partnered with some amazing organizations, including Tangled Art + Disability , Musagetes , Wilfrid Laurier University Press, Art Gallery of Ontario, ArtsEverywhere Festival, Art Gallery of Guelph, and Creative Users Projects.
Practicing the Social will include keynotes, presentations, and live performances. While most events will take place on Zoom, we will also be experimenting with an innovative new space called Gather Town, a digital space which allows everyone to mingle with other artists and attendees, attend live performances, and collectively engage with pre-recorded multimedia presentations and digital objects.
VIDEO CONSENT: There will be video and audio documentation of the event. By attending the gathering, you are consenting to participate in this documentation.
