DISRUPT!: Charting Our Own Pathways in Music

June 12 @ 3:00 pm - 6:30 pm EDT

Celebrate Black Music Month with Weeksville Heritage Center!

This June we’re celebrating Black Music Month! Gone are the days when a musician’s success was limited to a recording studio, a label, and radio/tv as the sole pathway to building a fan base. In thinking about how the digital age has completely disrupted the music industry, June’s Weeksville Weekend will explore how the Three E’s of Weeksville (emancipation, entrepreneurship, and empowerment) show up in Black music.

Tune in from 3:00 – 6:30pm on Saturday, June 12th for DISRUPT!: Charting Our Own Pathways in Music, as we convene with creatives paving their way through the new musical ecosystem.

EVENT SCHEDULE:

3 pm – DIY: YOUR CAREER. YOUR TERMS

Today’s musicians can have ownership and full control of their careers like never before. Join us as artists Siaira Shawn, Spree Wilson, and Mobley get candid about what it takes to excel as a musician in the age of information.

4 pm – “BEHIND THE WHEELS”

Podcasts have been a major portal for artist awareness and promo outside of traditional formats. Listen to the perspectives of music historian EB and popular LA-based DJ R-Tistic as they engage in stimulating dialogue about music, culture, and artists during a podcast recording of “Behind the Wheels.”
