AFTERNOON SESSION—ABSTRACT PAINTING
February 23 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm UTC-8
Let’s start 2021 with something new and fresh by creating a 12” x 12” (or similar size) ABSTRACT PAINTING using acrylic paint, often adding collage, and creating texture with various tools. This is super FUN!
I WILL BE REFERRING TO GUIDELINES AS WE PAINT–YOU MOST DEFINITELY WILL NOT BE EXPECTED TO PAINT WHAT I’M PAINTING, BUT RATHER PAINTING WHAT YOU LOVE–THEN YOUR FINISHED PRODUCT WILL FEEL LIKE YOU!
Depending on when you join the Group and sign up for an event, I may be starting something new, or continuing on a work(s) in progress.
GROUP GUIDELINES (subject to change):
I AM NEW TO MEETUP MYSELF AND CREATED THIS GROUP JUST OVER 4 WEEKS AGO TO CONNECT AND HAVE FUN PAINTING WITH OTHER ARTISTS. PLEASE TURN NOTIFICATIONS ON IN YOUR MEETUP PROFILE SO YOU CAN RECEIVE UPDATES, COMMENTS AND REMINDERS.
At this time “CLASS SIZE” CURRENTLY IS LIMITED FOR A MORE INTIMATE GROUP. EVENTS will be every Tuesday at 2 and 7pm. Let me know if you would like to choose 2-3 successive classes that work for you, so you may COMPLETE YOUR BEAUTIFUL WORK OF ART!
LATELY THERE HAS ALSO BEEN A WAITLIST FOR THE EVENTS, SO I ASK THAT YOU NOTIFY ME IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO MAKE THE CLASS THAT YOU SIGNED UP FOR–THEN I CAN OPEN IT UP TO THE NEXT IN LINE ON THE WAIT LIST (by texting you a minimum of 2 hours in advance, or whenever the cancellation is made).
2:00–Admission to call
2:05–MEET AND GREET & Intention for the call
2:15–Getting into the fun part—PAINTING! I will be giving EXPLANATIONS THROUGHOUT and the mics will be open for questions and comments.
3:30–end–SHOW & TELL!
Generally I work in multiples, usually 3 or 4 paintings, depending on the size of the pieces–and I encourage YOU to try this too! This will release you from boredom and frustration that often comes with working on a single piece–and it keeps it way more FUN!
In my process, if I’m beginning a new body of work, I start with play and experimentation–just putting paint down—and letting that inform what to do next. As the painting(s) progress with further passes, your choice of what to do next will become more and more refined, all the while using composition, contrast and colour.
As your painting progresses, we will be adding texture using collage elements, stamps, markers, etc then coming back in to paint, sand or scrape, depending on WHAT YOUR PAINTING(S) NEED(S).
This method of art making is the most fun I’ve had creating in years and I invite you to listen to what YOU really like, and even though your painting will go through an “ugly” stage (this is when a lot of people give up and let self-limiting beliefs creep in), I guarantee you will LOVE your creation at the end—because it’s a true expression of YOU!
